I wanted to give encouragement and speak the unspeakable.
Who are you and what are you all about?
My name is Lauren Matthies. I am an Air Force wife and a mother to two boys (four, if you include our bunny and dog). Currently I am a stay at home mom, but, in the past I owned my own yoga studio. One day I will get back to teaching. It is a passion of mine. In general, helping people is a passion of mine. I got my Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy before having a career change to yoga instruction.
Tell me about your book. What was the inspiration behind it?
Writing has always been something I love, and my favorite way to communicate. After having my first born, I really struggled. Motherhood changed me in ways that I never anticipated. It challenged me in ways that I never imagined. I wanted to let other mothers know that they weren't alone. That the ups and downs, the joys and the hardships, and the feelings that no one talks about are universal. I wanted to give encouragement and speak the unspeakable.
Why is this work important to you?
Because motherhood is hard. I want to normalize it. I want to build a community and help mothers find the courage they need to keep moving forward even when it feels impossible. I think that so often, especially with social media, we look at the lives of others, compare ourselves, and find ourselves lacking. I want others to find confidence in themselves, to trust themselves, and to come away feeling more hopeful, empowered, and content.
