If I can help other people to feel happier and more confident in caring for their children in the way they feel best suits them then I've achieved my goal.
What is Living the High Need Life and what is it all about?
Despite being desperate to be a mother and having to struggle through IVF to achieve my dream, I've found parenting my little boy to be a challenge. After a fair amount of research and reading, I discovered Dr Sears Fussy Baby Book and soon realised that I wasn't a bad mum, I just have a "high need" baby. The blog is an insight into parenting a high need baby: my experience, helpful tips and tricks, products that we love and other bits and bobs.
What inspired you to create the blog?
When I started learning about high need babies, I searched for blogs to read about other people's experiences. I came across a few but most of them hadn't been posted on for years. I figured if I could help just one person feel like they're not alone it was worth writing but, more than that, I would love to create a community where people can discuss their experiences, share things that have helped them and have a shoulder to cry on when they're struggling. I'm by no means an expert and I can only speak from my own experience but hopefully, as the community grows, we can all help each other out a little.
Why is this work important to you?
Raising a high need baby is hard work, incredibly rewarding but hard. I have some fabulous mum friends and, while they have their own challenges, they don't understand quite what it's like having a little person who has all of the regular baby needs and more. I was told I was spoiling him and that I needed to put my foot down, which is ridiculous when you're talking about a baby! Speaking to another mum of a high need baby was the first time that I felt like I was actually a good mum and accepting that this was just my baby's personality made it far less stressful meeting his needs. If I can help other people to feel happier and more confident in caring for their children in the way they feel best suits them then I've achieved my goal.
