Whether you're a first-time mum or a seasoned pro, breast health is one of the most important topics you should be across, regardless of whether you intend to breastfeed or not.
Over the course of your pregnancy and breastfeeding journey, your breasts undergo the most changes they'll go through in your lifetime. Even more so than during puberty! The increase in weight and size can cause significant strain on your body, so the benefits a nursing bra provides during this time are immeasurable.
Do I need a nursing bra?
Of course you don't need a nursing bra, but they do make things very comfortable and easily accessible if you're going to be nursing your baby.
The maternity and nursing bras at Cake Maternity are specifically designed for pregnant and nursing mamas. Not only will your breasts be larger and heavier, they can also become hot (temperature-wise), tender and itchy. They can even change size multiple times a day! Not to mention they'll be pulled, tugged and sucked on.
The least you can do for them is pop them in the most comfortable bra possible! They'll appreciate all the help you can offer them during this special time.

Bra shopping tips:
When you're looking to buy a maternity or nursing bra, there's a few things you should keep in mind to ensure you get the most out of it, because you'll change bra size around 5 times from the time you fall pregnant to the end of your breastfeeding journey!
During the first trimester and the first 6-8 weeks postpartum, we recommend mamas stick to seamless bras. This is because your breasts will be experiencing rapid growth, and it's imperative to limit any restriction.
Once you reach your second trimester, and after your milk has regulated postpartum (around the 6-8 week mark) you can start wearing flexi-wire bras again.
Bra shopping hack: At 8 months pregnant your cup size is approximately the same size it'll be when your milk supply has regulated, so to save time (and money) you can purchase your nursing bras at this stage! Just keep in mind that your rib cage will contract once bub comes along, so it's important to fit your bra to the loosest hook so you can tighten it up later.
We generally recommend having at least 3 nursing bras. That way you'll have one to wear, one in the drawer and one in the wash. It's also best to stick to styles you would normally wear, e.g. if you love wearing t-shirts, a t-shirt bra will be a pretty safe bet!
If you're not sure about your size or you notice your body changing regularly, opt for a multi-size fitting bra such as Chantilly or Tutti Frutti. These are cleverly designed to fit multiple cup sizes in one, so you'll be comfy and supported no matter what changes your body is going through.
