She listens to the stirs;
of her children,
of the washing machine,
of everything and everyone,
of the birds outside who tell her lovingly
that it’s time to try again.
But just because she’s silent,
doesn’t mean it is seamless.
Just because she’s silent,
doesn’t mean she isn’t screaming.
The weight of the world muffles her cries.
And it is the silent ones who drown.
Her work is noticed when she is gone.
But only a mother can sink and swim.
Only a mother can breathe
and drown at the same time.
